Doctor Who: The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe – A review

Ok, before I start: This contains major spoilers. Not that there’s much else to spoil about the episode anyway. If you haven’t seen it, I don’t reccomend watching it due to it’s lack of everything good.

Ok,

I thought that it could be a good episode, you know – Narnia like and evil tree men. But no, Stephen Moffat didn’t want any of that in. Once again, he decided to make the episode as childish as possible and as stupid as possible.

The episode started off well – For the first 2 minutes or so. The Doctor, running through an exploding spaceship – That was epic – But then The Doctor has to grab a space-suit otherwise the vacuum of space will suck him out and kill him.

But no, aparantly he can swim through space (Space = A void, a vacuum – An absence of all particles, especially all those needed to breath…) and survives. That seriously annoys me.

Then he can survive a massive drop from the outer-layers of Earth’s atmosphere to a small English village during WWII where a woman comes along and helps him to the TARDIS.

Not a very good start to the episode. Sadly, the episode gets worse as it goes on.

That same woman’s family’s father then dies and due to bomb scares (They live in a village? Why would the Nazis bomb a village? Or have I missed something?) they are moved to a big house which is supposed to be owned by someone, but The Doctor is living there as the caretaker, with no sign of the owner… (Lack of cast?)

The Doctor then shows the family this stupidly modernized and “fun-ized” house and says “Cool, I know” or something stupid after each room. This annoys me, as Doctor Who has gone from a whole family show which everyone can enjoy to a show aimed at the kids which only then can enjoy.

Then in the children’s bedroom they have hammocks. Now, I don’t think the children would be happy because of hammocks, I think they’d be pretty upset as they’d have to be sleeping in this bit of net dangled across the room…

So it’s the fist night, or something like that and the male child creeps downstairs to the living room where there’s a big blue present under the tree. He opens it and it takes him to a snow-y planet, straight out of the Narnia books with trees and snow and baubles hanging off the trees. He has a wander.

The girl gets up and goes up to The Doctor (Or The Caretaker, as he is known here)’s attic room and finds him doing something with his sonic screwdriver. Please get your mind out of the gutter.

Then he asks where her brother is and they go after him in the present.

Her brother ends up in a tower, which is made of wood (So The Doctor says.) but it’s strange, that, because the wood is obviously stone.

They follow him and find the tower, which he is now at the top of.

Then the mum goes through the present and gets herself lost. She gets found by a team of Androzanian woodcutters (Nice to see something from the classic series mentioned here, but I don’t think the Androzanians are known for their woodcutting industry…) who seem to be wearing armour and have guns. They hold her at gunpoint, they’re all unprofessional, she cries and then they put down their weapons and then the mum pulls out a revolver… FOR GOD SAKE, WHY DOES SHE HAVE A REVOLVER?

The “Caretaker” and the girl go into the tower, where there’s a wooden “statue” sitting on a throne. Now, where have we heard about moving statues before? Running out of ideas, are we Moffat?

They climb up the stairs which her brother went up and eventually get through.

Meanwhile, the mum has been taken into the woodcutter’s walker thing (A bit like an AT-ST from Star Wars) and the woodcutters tell her that they’re going to melt the wood with acid rain dropped by satellites above them. Surprise, surprise, the rain is going to start in 5 minutes.( Shame, it’ll be such a waste of a good cast… Sarcasm)

The woodcutters teleport off, leaving her there.

Meanwhile in the stone-wood tower thing the boy is going to have a crown thing put on him by a female wooden statue thing which will put all of the spirits of the trees inside him so they can fly away to safety from the acid rain. But he isn’t strong enough, and neither is The Caretaker. But the girl is.

Then the mum comes along in the AT-ST thing and crashes it. Female drivers, tut-tut – Sorry, I just had to say that.

Then she comes out unscarred and casually comes upstairs. She then gets the device put on her and she then “flies” the top of the tower through the Time Vortex to safety.

And here comes the most predictable and stupid and pathetic and soppy part in Doctor Who, ever.

The Caretaker tells her think of where she wants to go and she’ll be there.

So she sees her life playing on the window of the tower (For everyone to see) and then plays a scene of her husband dying. But the children don’t know about him being dead. So she cries out “I DON’T WANT TO SEE HIM DIE!” and then they land somewhere. The Caretaker walks off.

She then pulls out her husband’s death-telegram thing from her pocket and looks at her. Stupid family moment imbound!

The children then ask “What did you mean, I don’t want to see him die?” and “Is Daddy dead?” No, he’d drinking Vodka in an Australian strip club. Put 2 and 2 together geniuses.

Then The Doctor comes back in and says “Quick! Come outside, you have to see this!”

So they all go outside and see the father alive, because somehow he’d been ressurected which is apparently impossible according to every other time someone has died in Doctor Who.

So then they ask The Caretaker to stay for Christmas, or something. He then runs off halfway through Christmas because he was probably sick of them. I don’t blame him, I would have been.

Here comes the only appropriate and rellevent part of the episode – The Doctor visits Amy and Rory, who they haven’t seen him for 2 years.

They hug, he cries and that’s the end.

No preview of series 7.

Ok, now for the scores:

Script: 3/10 Poor, childish and very annoying.

Casting: 5/10 Reasonably casting.

Special effects: 7/10 Good, as always but a bit below average, I’d say.

Music: 8/10 Good, but re-used from series 5 and 6 I do beleive

Acting: 9/10 Very good acting, especially from the children

Appeal to all ages: 2/10 Would only appeal to 3-8 year olds probably

Memorability: 1/10 I’ve already forgotten a lot about it and I only watched it a few days ago

Consistency (Did I still want to watch it 1/2 way through): 3/10 At many points I wanted to turn it off.

Continuity (Were all questions answered, were there any errors): 5/10 I spotted no errors, but questions (Such as why did the mum have a revolver) were not answered

Overall score: 2/10 Appalling episode. I swear I will never watch it again. Worst episode of Doctor Who ever, I’d say – Worse than Love and Monsters

%: 44 good (Not 44% good as a Doctor Who episode, 44% good as anything)

It’s only a few days until all your favourite sites like YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and more could be taken down. This is due to the SOPA law being put into place in America, WHICH STILL AFFECTS ANYWHERE ELSE. This law is being put into place on request of big companies such as CBS Viacom so they can sue innocent people for even simply linking a copyrighted song to their site and for “illegally” downloading a song using a piece of softwhere WHICH CBS VIACOM PUT OUT AND ENCOURAGED PEOPLE TO USE. Save this video, re-upload it to your YouTube – Do ANYTHING so we can get the law-makers to see this and the evidence this video contains.

Oh, and you know what could happen to me? I could get sued because I linked “Avicii – Levels” to this site to get people to enjoy their music… Wow, I’m such a law breaker!
